Weeks after the launch, it exploded and became one of the top apps on the platform, gaining tens of thousands of customers and up to 20,000 app downloads per day. Fun fact: Shopify actually mentioned teelaunch in the keynote address at the Shopify Unite Conference in 2017. As it grew, we helped them pivot so they could scale sustainably and minimize the growing pains that startups often face.

Building the First Intl Carrier App in Shopify

First Glance A global leader in logistics and shipping, DHL was founded in 1969 and has grown to operate in over 220 countries and territories worldwide. Their longevity can be largely attributed to their constant pursuit of innovation and growth to better serve their customers. To that end, the team at DHL Express, the business unit which focuses on international shipping and courier delivery services, reached out to Sunrise Integration to help them enter the Shopify ecosystem. With their first Shopify app, they would be able to expand their reach and offer much needed shipping services to growing ecommerce businesses. The Opportunity DHL’s team wanted a robust feature set and more control that required building a custom app. With this app, their goal was to provide Shopify merchants an all-in-one carrier service. Merchants would be able to look up shipping rates, automatically show the shipping cost in their customers’ carts and create shipping labels and tracking IDs. Furthermore, the Sunrise Integration team built support for DHL’s label printers. The Solution Our team analyzed DHL’s existing apps in Magento, Volusion, and BigCommerce as well as the existing third party apps in Shopify. Using the knowledge and insights we gained during this process, we were able to determine what DHL Express needed for their Shopify app. The discovery process also consisted of a feature set review, API discovery to see what was doable and what wasn’t. Because Shopify did not support dimensional weight natively, we built a custom solution to address that as well. The OutcomeWhen it was first released into the Shopify App Store, the DHL Express app quickly became popular eventually reaching 5,600 total installs. Being one of the first international carrier service apps in Shopify, it served as a demonstration for what carriers could achieve within the Shopify ecosystem.

Magento to Shopify Migration

First Glance Bombas is a socially conscious clothing brand that focuses on making comfortable, high-quality apparel. Their cornerstone product is socks, boasting seamless toe, ultra-soft cotton, and honeycomb arch support. For every item that is purchased, Bombas donates an item to the homeless community on the customer’s behalf. More than 40 million items have been donated to so far with that number growing every day. Bombas wanted to implement a large-scale data migration from Magento to Shopify Plus, which meant that they needed development experts on both platforms. They found our team through the Shopify Experts database (Sunrise Integration was one of the only development agencies that specialized in both Magento and Shopify at the time). The Challenge Keeping true to their creativity as a brand, Bombas was an early adopter of Shopify. However, this required several complex features to take their business to the next level. At the time, there weren’t as many options for customizations as there are in present day and as a result, our team called on our creative problem solving skills to build several custom solutions for their needs. The Solution Bombas required custom solutions to extend Shopify Plus’ capabilities at the time. Our team built the following: A virtual sku system to package and market the same SKUs differently to different customers Custom order status app service Connecting their inventory to 3PL (Amware) with a custom appThe Outcome With these custom solutions built specifically for their needs, Bombas became one of the early success stories of Shopify. Their team was able to operate and scale their business to huge success with ease while doing away with the complexities of their previous platform and workflows.

Shopify App for International Shipping

First Glance Pitney Bowes is a multibillion-dollar, 100-year old leading supplier of postage, shipping and international logistics services. Pitney Bowes acquired Borderfree, an company which helps US businesses sell and ship products to other countries. We recognized that Pitney Bowes and Borderfree could benefit from a custom order management system (OMS) app which would enable their clients to ship to customers around the world with more ease and efficiency. The Challenge An increasing number of Pitney’s customers were asking for an installable app for their shopping cart platform of choice. We developed a partnership with Pitney to provide their own OMS that would be used by Shopify merchants across all industries. Before we partnered with Pitney Bowes and Borderfree, there was no solution that could move order data between their systems and Shopify in a seamless way. After several engagements, we standardized our app to meet that need and improve their workflows. The Solution Building a Powerful Custom OMS App After undergoing a thorough discovery process with Pitney Bowes’ team, we began building a custom Shopify OMS middleware for cross-border retail, called Global OMS. The Global OMS service automatically synchronizes order imports, product feed creation and shipment tracking notification between Shopify and Pitney Bowes and Borderfree. It is a scalable, end-to-end global ecommerce system that handles international enterprise retail. With it, Pitney Bowes and Borderfree are able to localize their domestic website for international consumers (currency and exchange rates, languages, country, prices), integrate cross border logistics, automatic synchronization and provide global customer service. The Outcome Adoption by Big Brands Global OMS is a multi-tenant SaaS application that’s being used by many high-profile Pitney Bowes clients on Shopify, such as Rebecca Minkoff, RevTown, Good American and Frame.
